Use this site for tutorials on CSS and XHTML, the first to basic things.

After that, you can decide what you want to do: Creating "Web Applications" (Web 2.0, AJAX) or presenting information, for which you could use PHP (php.net, do *NOT* use the W3Schools tutorial, it sucks).

Good luck!

This is a great little forum. It's totally standards friendly and has some neat little ajaxy bits built in. No wordpress plugin, but you can certainly install it and link to it from your wordpress blog. I've used it many times and like it alot. Look at the plugins for it as well. They really make vanilla sing.

From the JSON.org website:

JSON (JavaScript Object Notation) is a lightweight data-interchange format. It is easy for humans to read and write. It is easy for machines to parse and generate.
Sometimes AJAX is a little cumbersome to deal with when you're doing lightweght stuff and dealing with full-blown XML and dom parsing can be a bit tedious. Especially if all you really need to do is parse a data structure and modify some client-side state because of it. JSON is an excellent mechanism for formalising that non-XML data.

I learnt this link from the Web2.0 blog quest. It's a technically-oriented blog about Ajax techniques, pitfalls, etc. Pretty useful resource for anything wanting to track the latest Ajax development and techniques.
