Quest details: I am wanting to locate a site or piece of software that monitors my favourite web sites.

    What you are probably looking for is an RSS reader. An RSS reader let you bookmark web sites that have RSS feeds (most popular web sites) and you just check one place and it will tell you if anything new has been posted. I recommend Google Reader BUT there are lots of options both software and web based.
