Feature Requests
I love Otavo. I see the potential, and I'm really getting some serious use out of it. However, it strikes me that there are two type of quests people use.Â
1. How do I fix a leaky roof? or What is the real name of Sting? And so on...
2. Best Firefox Extensions, Best Web 2.0 Apps, etc
One is an attempt to get information regarding a certain issue, while the others are a collection of a certain type of thing falling into a category. As Otavo is attempting to be both a bookmark manager and a QnA type site, it might make sense to be able to label a new Quest as one or the other, with maybe an icon differentiating them.
In my opinion, though the quest box asks you to define your quest as a phrase, I prefer not to do so. Like, say I want to collect all of my favorite Code Editors, as well as get recommendations from others. For me to write "What is the best Code Editor?" feels odd, where labeling it "Best Code Editors" doesn't. Maybe it's a matter of personal preference.Â
Also, I think we should be able to limit some quests to our circle of friends, or maybe even specific friends. Certain quests don't apply to everyone, I would think. Maybe I want to collect best restaurants in my small home town. Should that quest really be on the main page? The odds that anyone here has even heard of my town is little to none.
Last, what about categories. Say, when creating a quest, you could determine a category. Then you could subscribe via RSS to each category to see when a new quest comes down the pipe. This would rock.Â
Just some thoughts. Maybe I'm not explaining myself well, but I love Otavo and would love to see it continue to improve. If any of the above options already exist, I haven't found them, but am willing to be proven wrong.Â
