You probably already have something like this in the works, but just in case I felt like mentioning it. I absolutely need notifications on my main page, i.e. new links, new comments, etc. Oh yeah, and an option of whether or not to subscribe to notifications would be nice, as sometimes I just want to help.

Definitely.

No comment really, just agreeing.

In the works

Yes subscription based notification of events on the site is in the works right now.

In the meantime, Tracker can show you all recent activity by everyone and there is also the Your posts link in the green Your Stuff block.

Conversation and quest Tracker

I am not sure if you have had a chance to check out newsvine yet, but they have included a Conversation Tracker at the top of the page that is ingenius. One tracker gives you a new comment count from your posts. Perhaps someting similar could be done with new links posted to quests with an option to stop tracking if you are no longer interested. The second tracker gives a count for replies to threads you have commented on throughout the site. I would love to see both of these implemented here somehow. In my opinion, the ability to "clear the count" and "stop tracking" by individual thread are key to the usefulness of such a feature.

The Tracker is helpful, but I find myself digging for new responses and links. I end up having to navigate to my profile to find the quest I want to check for responses on.

How would anyone notice that I posted this comment to this older thread if they were not purposely (intentionally) hunting for new comments? It is often my intention just to find new links, comments and replies.

I also agree with Matt that it would be nice to be able to help someone with a quest without subscribing to it yourself. On the same note, would it interest anyone to know who shared or authored the links as they are added to a quest? It is nice to give for the sake of giving (without recognition), but I would also like to know who pointed me in the right direction sometimes.
